I have been meaning to post this for weeks but I still think it's better late than never. I've gotten several questions asking how I packed for our two week honeymoon to Italy. You all should be so proud of me because I was the lightest packer ever! I packed less than Matthew, which even surprised him! The trick was picking items that I knew would go together in a lot of different ways. You can see that while I packed a couple striped shirts, I didn't chose any patterned bottoms because I wanted to make sure each top would go with each bottom. {I was also motivated to pack light because I was thinking about the clothes and presents I might find in Italy hehe}

shirts {LtoR}: Forever 21, American Apparel, J. Crew, Urban Outfitters
pants: J.Crew black Minnie Pants, Urban Outfitters BDG jeans
shorts: J. Crew
skirt: J.Crew
dress: c/o Ruche
scarf: Tory Burch
jacket: H&M
sweaters: Madewell and J.Crew
swimsuit: Vix Swimwear
sunnies: 80s Purple
shoes: Palladium, Michael Kors, Marshalls
Luckily we were able to wash our clothes once during the trip, while we were in the countryside, so that helped with the underwear situation. I know it's probably gross to think I only had two pairs of shoes to walk around in for two weeks but at least the Palladiums had some good support. I didn't get one blister!
Do you tend to pack light or heavy on trips?
I'm luckily getting better with shorter trips by planning my outfits in advance.

thanks for the inspiration! i am the world's worst packer!!! needed this. ;)
ReplyDeleteI should probably follow your advice and start packing less! I usually overpack and I never even end up wearing half of the clothes I packed!
ReplyDeleteGreat advice :)

WOW!You packed lighter than Matthew, I'm impressed! I definitely need to take notes from you, I dread packing for trips because I have difficulty editing my choices. Love the bathing suit Mara!
ReplyDeleteThis was great! It is all about packing light when you go on trips. I just went to NY for 2 weeks and way over packed, which I never do. But I now understand the point of only taking a carry on overseas!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great collection of things you can mix and match. I'm definitely using this as a guide for next time I go on a trip, I'm such a bad over-packer!
ReplyDeletei'm awful at packing. for my trip here to france (studying for 2 months), i packed one huge suitcase that weighed 65 pounds and then another slightly smaller one that weighed 39.... i just couldn't bear to leave any of my favorite clothes behind! i have worn almost all of them, but i know now that i didn't actually need all of them. and i would have saved almost $200 if i just stopped being stubborn and went with one 40 pound suitcase in the first place. next time, i guess.
ReplyDeleteImpressive! I am a big dress wearer, but you were smart to bring the tops and the shorts/pants!
ReplyDeletei loved this!! You make it look so easy! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI'm a terrible packer. I get it all organized and sorted out and then have a last minute panic and throw half my wardrobe into the mix!
ReplyDeleteYou make it look so effortless here!
I should seriously take note of this... I always tend to pack too much. And by too much, I mean.. way-too-many-clothes-i-probably-pack-a-month-worth-of-closet-for-a-two-day-trip-kind-of-alot-too-much.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post! In two weeks I go to London and I needed a postlike this! Thanks!
ReplyDeletei have an easier time packing light when i am going on a long trip than when i go away just for the weekend. i always over pack for weekend trips!

Wow! I am seriously impressed with your packing skills! :)
ReplyDeleteI just love this Mara. I never seem to know what to pack, and I usually over pack. I'll have to bookmark this for my next trip. Thank you!! Your a god send. Hope your having a fabulous day. xx veronika
ReplyDeleteI'm beyond impressed with your packing skills!
ReplyDeletenice packing skills! totally jealous!
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm a reasonably light packer, but only 4 tops?! I couldn't do it - I like to have almost enough tops for each day, so if I get all sweaty I don't have to worry about finding somewhere to wash my clothes!
ReplyDeletei am such a terrible packer and never bring what i actually need
ReplyDeleteI'll have to hire you to pack for me on my next trip!
ReplyDeleteIm so impressed! I am home in NY for two weeks and packed soo much more than you! Wish I had seen this before I came! Thank you for the helpful tips for the future!
ReplyDeleteVery good work! But didn't you have a floral romper in there too?
ReplyDeleteI am in utter awe that you did this! Wow! I really need this because I am packing for a month long trip to Europe and I have already over packed in my head multiple times. Thanks for this!
ReplyDeletePalladium flats are SO comfy and extremely durable. I love my pair to bits!
ReplyDeleteI always overpack -- which I know is SO bad. But I'm getting better! And you did an incredible job.

I don't know how you did that! I definitely need to learn. I'm the worst at short weekend trips... i tend to pack my closet!
ReplyDeleteMel, oh my gosh you are so right! How did I forget to include the romper?! Imagine that's in there too :)
ReplyDeleteI'm always over packing! I never know what to take with me...But you did a great job with packing!

ReplyDeleteHeya :) Just wanted to let you know how much I love your blog! I really enjoyed this post, I'm off to turkey for 2 weeks in a couple of days and I'm dreading packing because I know I'll want to take too much...reading this has helped me a lot though! I'm new to blogging so I haven't done much on mine yet, but if you ever get a chance to have a look at it I'd really appreciate any advice :) Take care <3 xoxo

Good for you! I'm usually a good packer. either that, or I just know how to pack a lot of things into one bag. I'm planning on packing for our honeymoon before I leave for the wedding, so when we get back to NYC I'll just have to wash a few things and transfer bags. also, I don't know why but I've stopped buying gifts for other people when I travel. Tyler wants to do this, but I have no desire to fill my bag with things for other people. I'd rather take the time to write and send them a post card.
ReplyDeletegreat tips though Mara! I'll definitely use them when I pack for our honeymoon! xo Kirby
Thanks for posting! I was wondering how much you packed!
ReplyDeleteLidi @ Eclectic Flair
Yeah...I just can't do it. I live in Tampa, drove to Tallahassee to stay with family (who had a washer/dryer, obviously) and still packed an ENTIRE suitcase. When I have my honeymoon, I'm going to need you to come here and pack for me, mmkay?
ReplyDeletethat is amazing! i dont know how you do it, but thank you for inspiring me to pack a little bit lighter:) i'm normally there with about 5 suitcases and little bags..its not good! xo
ReplyDeletei am AMAZED! i packed more than this for our 3 day 4th of july weekend at the beach!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to be bookmarking this post and referring back to it when I back for our trip to England. I do tend to overpack and it's such a pain. Thanks for sharing these tips!!
ReplyDeleteSo proud of you Mara!!!! Packing light is the trick...but I usually pack somewhere in between! :( Ha! But never too much because yes, you want to make sure you get to buy souvenirs and other things while traveling. A MUST! :)
ReplyDeleteWhenever I have to pack, I end up packing all my clothes, sine I barely have any!
ReplyDeleteBut I love what you packed. Not too much, or too little.
I definitely pack heavy!
ReplyDeleteI always want to be sure to have enough to change and to have some in reserve.
I'm such a heavy packer, and I'm doomed for packing for Cambodia. This will hopefully help me pack better!
ReplyDeletegreat post Mara, it sounds like you really thought through each and every piece that went into your suitcase which is the smart way to go about it! so often i'll aimlessly throw stuff in mine without really thinking.
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed, and wish I'd followed your footsteps! I also just spent a few weeks in Europe and I packed almost my entire 30x30, which I didn't need. We went to Cinque Terre in Italy and it reminds me of Positano. Congratulations on your marriage!
ReplyDeleteP.S. We're also having caprese withdrawal. So, so good!
This is great!!!!
