48 hours in Portland

September 13, 2012

Matthew and I had such a great time in Portland. We arrived Monday afternoon and left Wednesday afternoon so the trip was short but sweet. We had the best time exploring downtown and trying all these incredible restaurants. We basically pigged out the entire time, which you'll see from the photos! I'm looking forward to going back again, renting a car, and driving all around. I know there is tons to explore in Orgeon!
aebleskivers with homemade lemon curd, lingonberry jam and syrup
baked egg scramble with potato pancake and walnut toast
pan fried gnocchi with corn and marjoram
deep fried zucchini blossoms with taleggio and truffle honey
Khao Phat Buu- crab fried rice
Khanom Jiin Sao Naam- vermicelli with pineapple, ginger, mango in a sweet & sour coconut cream sauce

I told you we ate a lot! Here are some of the places we tried:

Broder- amazing Swedish brunch! Loved the coffee with the warm milk and the eggs and ebelskievers were delicious!
Pok Pok- favorite restaurant we tried. Has the best reviews that definitely lived up to the hype.
Jamison- great place for an afternoon lunch on the patio!
Henry's 12th Street Tavern- good happy hour! Sit on outdoor patio and enjoy one of their many beers.
Departure- rooftop of The Nines hotel. Great view but food was just ok. Overpriced in my opinion, but it was one of our only options on the first night since most places were closed for Labor Day.
Nostrana- delicious Italian wood fired pizza. Perfect for a date night!
Voodoo Donuts- so weird. so Portland! You just have to try it!
Saint Cupcake Galore- light, fluffy, and perfectly sweet! Loved the Carrot Cake cupcake but the Big Top is a cutie!
Stumptown Coffee- soo good! Their cold brew tasted like juice, fruity and sweet. You didn't even need sugar!

Have any of you been to Portland? Do you have any favorite places we should check out next time?

  1. i want to eat every single thing in this post!

  14. I always love to see Portland through visitors eyes! It also gives me ideas on places I should eat that I've never tried before. ;)

I would recommend any of the McMenamin's for happy hour. There are quite a few of them around the Portland area and they are quirky bars/restaurants usually housed in awesome old or historic buildings. They also brew their own beer and it's delicious.

  15. i would love to take a bite out of that voodoo doughnut, but everything else looks good as well. i had to look up aebleskivers. from the name i figured that it's something nordic. i've never seen it before. looking at the snapshots, i'm starting to like portland. thanks for sharing!

  32. It is very essential for you to select our Ferragamo Handbag and boots because it can make you tasteful. will make the design and style and a little cute, make you younger mature. Do you know how to choose Ferragamo Outlet handbags.

  33. Everybody knows that almost everyone would wish to own one of these preferred designer handbags, though for most of us it just costs too much. Those who got cash to spend on many of these luxuries are the exclusively ones who can pay for such luxurious items. Do not worry because there are too many fashionable and elegant replica Lanvin bag being offered at very reasonable rates. http://www.lanvinbagonline.com/

  34. I love your pictures! especially the one with the eclair that looks yum and funny!

I agree with a previous comment that you should try any of the McMenamins, great burgers, beer and a fun atmosphere. Portland also has a ton of awesome breweries. Check out Bridgeport or Rogue!

le Bistro Montage is an awesome restaurant that definitely has that Portland vibe. They have crazy hours, open until 4am! You'll have to try one of the many varieties of mac & cheese they have, YUM!
