new year new you

January 1, 2013

I feel like most people look at a new year as unwritten pages, waiting to be filled. There is so much optimism around a fresh start and a new beginning. This year you might want to do X, Y, and Z. {I probably do too!}. In terms of sartorial exploration I anticipate this year won't differ drastically from the last. I finally feel like I'm in a place where I know my style, what works for me and what doesn't. I still like being a thrifty and safe shopper, too. I do like to embrace the trends, but in my own way. You won't see me wearing anything too crazy or out of the ordinary. So no heel-less, sky-high platforms or florescent mumu dresses. Nope, that's not in the plans for 2013. You're very welcome!
shirt Massimo Dutti, sweater J.Crew {similar}, skirt Forever21, shoes c/o Sole Society, watch BCBGMaxAzria

One thing I'd like to wear more in the new year is pants. As you all know {and can see above}, I'm a dresses and skirts girl through and through. It's actually very safe for me. I would like to try wearing more pants, though, since it's a clothing item that I sometimes don't know how to style properly. I definitely get the jeans and t-shirt thing but trousers and fancy pants? Not so much. I'm going to try to test it out though and see how I can make the outfits look polished and classy and still stay true to my personal style.

Is there a certain clothing item or trend you're going to try to embrace in the new year? I'd love to hear!

  2. I recently saw the cute pants looks on pinterest. They were wide denim trousers with a bright blazer and striped tank. I could see that for you!

  4. I love that you admit that you've just come to understand your style. I feel the same! It's such a finicky thing, isn't it.

I'm trying to embrace sweaters. I don't know why I have issues with them.

  6. Loving this combination - you always put together pieces (& colors) that I would never even try pairing! I am the opposite - I want to try wearing more skirts & dresses this year :)

  14. I too, am a dresses and skirts kind of gal. I love that you sport that look quite a bit.

I've got a friend who wears only dresses. ONLY dresses. She's a spunky chicka.

I would like to wear more layers and mix more "crazy items" to be worn as an everyday item. A lot of people say, "only you can pull that off..." and well, I think they can too. I just gotta some how prove it. :)

  15. Isn't it wierd how dresses are the safe choice? I'm the exact same way where I try to avoid pants as much as I can. I always feel a touch boring in them, so I'll definitely be looking for your posts as inspiration ;)

  17. It's all about the little changes! That's so awesome that you know your own style so well and love it enough to not want to change anything big! I'm with you on the pants boat... I don't ever know how to style them, so just pass them up in stores!

  18. I want to start wearing more high heels this year. I have so many pairs, but I'm self-conscious about wearing them.

  21. OBSESSED with those heels!! Like need them now.

I haven't thought about what trend I'm going to try to embrace but might try to do pants at work as well...considering I wear a dress about every day and it's just WAY too cold to do so, today, for example.

    Happy New Year!
