I'm lucky to work in an office that doesn't have a dress code. I guess you could call it Friday Casual that lasts all week long. It's kind of nice to not have the pressure to dress professionally every day, although I always try to look polished and appropriate. When I worked for a more conservative company I had my fair share of work dresses. I always tried to find the balance between dressing professionally, but also showing my personality and love of fashion. I still wanted to dress like myself. One way I liked to do that was by paring a colored blouse under a basic dress. Layering it this way shows a little bit of color but it's still appropriate for the work environment. I also like adding a bag in a pop of color. This purple bag compliments the blue in my blouse, but doesn't look like it's too much.

Love this look Mara!At my job, we are told to dress business casual, but they're really not that picky on how we dress. I love how I can incorporate pop of colors to my look and still show my personality. It's so much fun!

The last photo of you is gorgeous! Definitely my favorite pic.
ReplyDeleteAnd your outfit is super nice as well. I try to make myself look professional at work also but sometimes I wish I could wear yoga pants and a sweater haha

Adorable!
ReplyDeleteMy office is business casual more on the conservative side. I try to focus on one item to stand out; say polka-dots, and keep the rest neutral to still look professional.
That jumper is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteMy office has a fairly relaxed dress code (at least my position) but in the summer, it is harder to be appropriate when its over 100 degrees lol

Love the dress and the blouse underneath is perfect for wintertime! You are lucky to work in an office with no dress code.

love the pop of the color with your bag! I always have such a hard time remixing with a dress but layering with a shirt under it is smart!

I work in a (sadly) more conservative office, but I still find ways to make it fun. I usually will pair traditional workwear pieces (like a structured blazer) with a fun top underneath - and definitely play up accessories. It's funny though, we are moving buildings this month and are able to wear jeans every day - I almost don't know what to do with myself anymore! :)

Love this post! I too, work in a pretty laid back office which can make getting dressed up difficult. I try to always have a statement piece in my look; whether its a bag, necklace, pumps or lip color!

I have a pretty conservative job and it is torture to dress sometimes. Some of the best compromises I have made have been with vintage secretary dresses that I have taken up in the hem (mid-calf isn't doing anything for anyone!). There dresses have a lot of muted, though interesting patterns and paisleys. I am always on the hunt for fashion forward (yet conservative?) work wear.

ReplyDeleteGrowing up in private school- I never thought I'd want to see plaid or a jumper again, but this is so cute!

I'm working in a bank, and trust me, it doesn't get more conservative than that...! According to our dress code I should wear skirts/pants and shirts in neutral colors with minimal jewelry and accessories, but I do not always follow this dress code, so I'm also wearing print shirts or dresses.
ReplyDeleteOn Friday we are allowed to wear jeans, but with a classic shape, not baggy or ripped.

I love the dress - so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI'm supposed to dress professionally, but it's definitely laid back. I struggle with appropriateness sometimes though, because I work at a university and I don't want to look like a student I try to wear a more "grown-up" style. I wish I could get away with things like polka dot pants though :)
You're looking fabulous Mara! I love that dress! A similar outfit to this is my go-to work outfit. My office is really casual too and I'm always the most professionally dressed. I just prefer to be a little more dressy for work.
ReplyDeleteWonderful outfit. Love it.

I love dressing for school because sitting in a desk for hours can be uncomfortable with the wrong clothes! It's so much fun to experiment though!

ReplyDeleteI work in a conservative, business casual office. I enjoy adding quirky notes, like a fun belt or an interesting pattern under a blazer or sweater. Use a scarf and add an interesting wrap, keep a neutral outfit with bright heels, add a special pin, etc. Subtle additions are the way to go...except maybe on Friday :). Worse comes to worse...keep a black blazer on the back of your door in case the day turns serious! :)

I actually work in the same kind of environment you do, it's a fairly casual place, so I can where whatever I like within reason. I try to mix it up and pair dressy things with casual items, like tshirts with pencil skirts and blouses with jeans.
ReplyDeleteI work at a law firm, where there's a crazy-strict dress code, but I also work in Brazil, where no one seems to really follow anything anyways.
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous though! Super formal dress codes are stupid.
