the solid talk

May 10, 2013

I've noticed that my wardrobe tends to skew very print-heavy. Sometimes I feel like an outfit isn't really complete without some pattern or print. The truth is, wearing prints is something I've only recently gotten more comfortable with. I love the architectural elements of this outfit- the layered peplum and the draped skirt. The pieces are so pretty on their own that they don't need to compete with a print. It's nice to be able to find the balance of when to add a print, and when to let solids stand on their own.

I'm loving this layered peplum top from Spiegel. The shoulders are so cute with the little slits and I love the tiny bows on the sleeves. Spiegel has such pretty and couture-like clothes, but at such great prices. While everything on their site is really affordable, they're also giving 10% off you next order with code Spiegel13 so take advantage!

  1. That purple looks fabulous on you - What a lovely look! Adore that bag.

  2. As always; unusual and beautiful outfit.

  3. Gorgeous outfit and color combos! I feel the same way! Lately my wardrobe is all pattern and I think I need to find a better balance!

    Have a great weekend!

  4. I find that I do the complete opposite. All my clothes are usually solid or have a very subtle pattern or detail.I usually had more print with my accessories.I have been trying to add more prints though.

Btw, that color is lovely on you.

  5. You so pretty :-)

I'm definitely more of a solids girl & am really trying to work on adding more prints to my wardrobe. I'm OBSESSED with those heels btw!

    Have a great weekend friend!

  13. That purple peplum top looks so great on you! I love the peplum trend! It's so 1940's chic!

  14. True. Always nice to switch it up once in a while. Color blocking, though not as popular as last year, isn't going anywhere, so solids are still desirable to wear.

The purple has a lovely shade, and looks quite becoming against your skin tone. I like your outfit.

    Have a nice weekend!

Also, when you get a chance, please take a look at my beauty and skin care blog. Have a great weekend!

  15. I have a closet full of solids, but I do love a good stripe! I think your solids work perfectly here, especially with the addition of that gorgeous necklace. I also just ordered those same shoes in nude -- I can't wait for them to arrive!

  16. Awesome outfit, Mara! Peplum tops look fantastic on you!
Let me see...probably equally comfortable in both. Although I do think solids are more practical, as they go with each other easier than print (but prints are so fun!) So I suppose it's a toss up! =)

  26. I think I'm more comfortable wearing solid colors than print, but I still love wearing print! For me to be comfortable in a print though, I usually tend to stick to the not-to-loud kind. :)

Lovely peplum blouse and I absolutely love those bright pink shoes!
